Alicante Summers...

Here's one that I'm sure is a summer-time favourite across the globe!
I scream, you scream, we all scream for...

ICE CREAM!

Alicante is one of the ice-cream making capitals of Spain. Alicante and the nearby town of Xixona. Both make ice-cream to sell in the summer and turrón (Spanish nougat) to sell in the winter.

I tend to prefer sherbet to ice cream, but among the latter my favourites are two local specialities: helado de turrón and helado de leche merengada. Yum! What are your favourites?

  1. As you may be guessing, I am turning into a massive Spanish fan but the ice cream is always really chalky! I am going to have to stick to being an Italian Gelato girl on this one.. haha
Plus, in Barcelona, this restaurant had Helado de quesos on the menu so I had to try it because it sounded so odd. Won't be trying it again any time soon....

  2. I've only recently discovered Gelato and it is yummy. But my top favorite still remains good old vanilla ice cream, especially home-made! But I've never turned down any flavor! It always ends up #1 on my list of favorite foods.

  7. Are you in London now? No way! Let me know if you need tips on where to go. Millenium brigde is the pedestrian bridge that links the Tate to St Pauls cathedral. Wave at the joggers - it could be me!!

  8. Yummmmmmm home-made ice-cream!!! My grandma here used to do that, it was delicious, specially the strawberry! And my godfather in Mexico used to make the best lemon ice-cream in the world!

Sorry O, got back yesterday!!! And I didn't make it down to the Millenium bridge, I was planning on visiting St Paul but endend up spending 3h in Westminster Abbey and another bunch of hours wandering around! :p Next time! (which will probably be in the Fall)

If its sweet, cold and frozen, chances are I'll love it. But my favorite is frozen yogurt. There used to be a place near me in California called Penguins that had the best. We could walk over there in the evening and watch the sunset over the mountains while we indulged. These days I buy Ben and Jerry's frozen yogurt. I can sit and eat a whole pint by myself and I don't have to worry about the fat content like I do with ice cream. I think it averages about 10 grams of fat for the whole pint as opposed to over a hundred in the ice cream. I don't do this often, but when I do…………… yum!
