TV Addiction: cancellation rant addendum... and homage

Well, after my rant the other day, it appears we have another series to mourn... with FOX officially announcing their 2009-2010 schedule, it's official that Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has ended its run with the 2nd season finale. *sigh* Although this has been expected / dreaded for some time now, it still hurts.
On the plus side, at least Dollhouse has been renewed so we get to glimpse into the workings of crazy Joss Whedon's mind for another 13 episodes at least! ;o)

So, in memory of my favourite shows cancelled before their time, here goes a fan video someone put together in honour of one of them (Firefly) to a really great tune. And yeah, all too often the best shows really do need a Hero to pull them off the bubble and into renewal-land!

Addendum (May 20): Summer Glau thanks the fans:

NOOOOOOOOO! I loved Terminator! It was getting really good too, but when the networks push a show to Friday or Saturdays, you know it's on the chopping block! Just like they did with Prison Break - another show I've mourned.

  2. Yeah, those final episodes were... AMAZING!!!

I'm afraid I never really managed to get into Prison Break... caught the beginning on TV when I was living in Belgium, but since it started just before choir practice ended I always missed the beginning and it never really clicked with me. But from what I've read they've wrapped it up nicely plus there's a TV movie coming! Poor Sarah Connor could indeed be "over" where they left it... but there's sooooo much more to be told!!! *sigh*

I was loving how they were bring back Kyle, and how Cameron all of a sudden was human in the future! It was such a great cast, I'm so disappointed!

  4. yeah... and there I was still grieving over Derek... ;o) And is that Cameron or "Alyson from Palmdale"?

Hmmm... we know Kyle Reese is in the Terminator movie, I wonder if they've picked up the character of Derek from the series as well? :p

  5. Not quite related to this post, cos I never watched the terminator series, tho' loved the movies, but wanted to say anyone who comments the way you did on 'Spiral Reverie - musings of an aspiring author', has my vote. Intelligent, supportive, cogent.More power to you.We need more commenting like that instead of, no, as well as the usual 'wow, amazing' oneliners. some of the MM

  6. wow, thanks! I try. I'm actually usually more inspired in my comments on other's posts than when writing my own. I haven't yet managed to bring myself to write about certain in such an open, often brutally honest way that others do, afraid of laying myself a bit too open I guess. But whereas I'm too visible on my own blog I can open up and remain a bit more anonymous on others.

Hi Cris, I know what you mean about opening up. It took me years to feel comfortable enough to do this, but it's much easier for me because I have disowned my family and left my old life behind a few years ago. Now, I could care less who reads it. Your blog is fun to read!

  8. Well I haven't disowned them, I couldn't ever imagine myself doing that, they're too much a part of who I am! But I'll admit to being VERY lucky in my family, even if we're all a bunch of loonies! :p

As far as I know they never come round here, or my friends. But just in case. It's easier to be open anonymously than when people you know are going to be reading it. I don't know if it's a similar thing, but I'll feel ok going topless on a beach here (which is so common it's 99% of the beach population) when I'm alone, but NEVER when I'm with people I know (even my girl friends)

Am glad the posts are fun though! Perhaps in time I'll finish feeling fully comfortable with this medium and then I can mix up my wackyness with some metaphysics or something! ;o)

  10. have I mentioned I'm naturally very shy? being just me doesn't come naturally!

I was shy my entire life until recently. It's not an easy thing to overcome because there is anxiety attached to it! Terrible for some people. I remember when I used to go out with my ex-bf and his friends, I was so shy I didn't ever say a word. They thought I was a snob and he told me I was being mean too. They couldn't get it!

  12. I've learnt to overcome it once I'm comfortable with people. It's taken being dropped alone several times where I know no one (scientific conferences can be torture that way), being forced to speak in public, meeting friends and family of friends... but still to this day if I go with a friend to a party where I know no one else, I'll spend a good part of either latched on to my friend or just alone observing things. I'm no good at small talk so sometimes have trouble integrating in such situations. But get the music hopping and I'm out on the dance floor forgetting it all! ;o)

You're better than me! I hate public speaking. There's a popular statistic that people fear public speaking more than death, ha ha.

Oh gosh, I'm a master at small talk! Working as a manager for years, you kind of have no choice but to interact with tonnes of people, but I haven't yet mastered the art of deep conversation - well, unless it's online!
    ;)

  14. well I'm a better listener than talker in most conversations, unless I'm nervous in which case I start to ramble.

And I managed to throw myself into the center of things in college when I volunteered to be student representative... and then when I went to Belgium I got a volunteer job as a guide in the Aquarium... and then my supervisor basically put my name among the candidates to be the student representative to a scientific society (too late for me to take myself out of it) and I ended up getting elected by the majority of the students (coincidentally the night after dancing on a bar... hmmm...) so for 4 years had to represent their interests and deal one on one with some important and very intelligent people. Was scared shitless at first but was WONDERFUL!

So that does a lot to cure oneself of public speaking. I still get butterflies, but I've gained so much self confidence in that area that I know I can pull it off no matter what! It helps if I'm speaking in English, but I can pretty much make it work almost as well in the other two.

Oh wow, you worked at an aquarium, that is really cool. I'm glad you feel a lot of self-confidence, that's the key right?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yup, self confidence works wonders! Now if only I can get my act together and get the willpower to match it and I should be all set! :p

Hey there! Yes you! The quiet one in the back... I'd love it if you hung out for a bit and shared your thoughts!

I might stop by your place with an answer, but I'm more likely to reply right here so click on "email follow up comments" if you'd like to see what I and others have to say and come continue the conversation! ;o)
