It's designed so that the square is flanked on its 4 sides by the church, the supreme court, parliament and the executive offices (Treasury, HMRC etc). All the buildings are flying flags at full mast all the time now as part of Gordon Brown's national pride initiative - he has spent us into recession but he's trying to keep us patriotic. I went to visit my sister twice when she was studying in Bangor and we did some hiking (once up Snowdon) and it was all breathtaking!
As for the Highlands, well I still want to go up. The only thing I've seen of them was on the train from Glasgow to Inverness (I went to a lab their to collect samples), and I spent the whole stretch through the Highlands with my nose stuck on the window saying "I want to get out! I want to get out!" Some day I will...CrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4725445476483285712.post-27934154029264444412009-08-11T23:23:12.007+02:002009-08-11T23:23:12.007+02:00If you want to come to England, I would advise eit...If you want to come to England, I would advise either sticking to London (which could easily occupy a couple of weeks) or hiring a car, as the public transport in this country is dreadful! Stratford is very popular but again, tricky to get to without a car. For exciting landscapes, you want Snowdonia in Wales or the Scottish Highlands, but again with the car...!Juliettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00203399623895589924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4725445476483285712.post-9069545488508332572009-08-11T20:54:55.943+02:002009-08-11T20:54:55.943+02:00Awesome architecture indeed! It's one of the reasons I'm thankful to be living in Europe, plenty of beautiful buildings and testaments of human ingenuity and creativity to admire!

Dive Girl, I've only been (half a dozen times) to London and once to Plymouth (plus quick visits to Wales and Scotland) so I haven't exactly seen much of the country. But from what I have seen I'd say there is more than enough to justify a prolonged visit!CrazyCrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17512240982215608638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4725445476483285712.post-73351344377795152952009-08-11T16:43:42.260+02:002009-08-11T16:43:42.260+02:00I've never been to England, but thanks to your...I've never been to England, but thanks to your photos, I think it would be a worthwhile trip.
